World Evidence-Based Healthcare (EBHC) Day, observed on October 20th, is an international initiative highlighting the importance of high-quality evidence for healthcare decision-making, policy development, and everyday clinical practice. This day provides a platform for discussing current challenges and trends in healthcare while also recognizing the efforts of researchers, professionals, healthcare workers, and institutions who contribute to improving the quality and outcomes of care.

The Cochrane Patient and Public Network is an open community for anyone interested in healthcare evidence and wanting to participate in its creation and dissemination. It is intended for patients, potential patients, caregivers, users of health and social services, and organizations that represent these groups.

In cooperation with local medical guideline developers, a special edition of the Ministry of Health Bulletin was introduced. Among other things, it presents the methodology for developing and updating clinical practice guidelines and operational recommendations in healthcare. The document offers readers a comprehensible overview of how such guidelines are created, what types exist, and at what intervals they need to be updated to reflect the latest scientific knowledge. The Cochrane methodology served as a model for our own methodology, which is adapted to the Czech context while maintaining international standards.

The Cochrane Library, named after Scottish epidemiologist Archie Cochrane, is a collection of specialized databases focused on medicine and healthcare. At its core is the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, which compiles systematic reviews and meta-analyses that summarize clinical research results and provide evidence on the effectiveness of medical interventions.

Every year on May 31st, we observe World No Tobacco Day, which aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects of smoking and to encourage smokers to quit. On this occasion, it’s worth highlighting findings from high-quality research that show what truly helps people overcome nicotine addiction.
